Signal Marketing
Signal Marketing
Turn B2B intent into enriched contacts in your SWAI contact lists.
What is Signal Marketing?
Signal Marketing is a SWAI Contacts tool where you create Listening Signals that watch B2B social activity, score matches with AI, optionally enrich contacts, and save them to a SWAI contact list.
You use it to:
- Describe who you want to reach and let AI draft a signal configuration
- Choose a signal type (keyword mentions, new hires, job changes, or topic engagement)
- Set audience filters, relevance thresholds, and AI scoring criteria
- Choose contact enrichment (None, Email only, or Email and Phone)
- Deliver matched contacts into a selected Contact List
- Pause, edit, or delete signals from the dashboard
Main screens
| Screen | What it’s for |
|---|---|
| Contacts → Add contact → Signal Marketing | Opens the Signal Marketing tool from CRM |
| Listening Signals | List, search, pause/activate, edit, or delete signals |
| Describe your signal | AI draft from a prompt, or start a blank wizard |
| Create / Edit wizard | Four steps: Signal Type → Monitor Options → Contact Enrichment → Desired User Description |
Note: Open Signal Marketing from Contacts → Add contact → Signal Marketing. It uses your brand session inside Contacts — there is no separate Signal Marketing item in the main sidebar.
Before you start
You can open Signal Marketing anytime you are signed in to the correct brand on Contacts. Creating a useful signal needs a clear target and a contact list ready.
Checklist
Open Contacts from SWAI
Use the Contacts sidebar item so you are signed in for the correct brand.Open Signal Marketing
Click Add contact → Signal Marketing.Know what to listen for
Have keywords, ICP filters (industry, country, company size, job title, seniority), or LinkedIn post/profile URLs ready for your signal type.Contact list
Matched contacts are saved to a SWAI Contact List. Select an existing list or create one in the wizard.Scoring criteria

Important warnings
Warning: If you see Sign in required, Authentication failed, or Invalid or expired embed token, close the Signal Marketing dialog and open it again from Contacts → Add contact → Signal Marketing.
Warning: Delete Signal has no confirmation dialog. Deletion cannot be undone and removes the signal (including its monitor).
Warning: A paused signal does not process new matches. Resume it with Activate Signal when you want delivery to continue.
Tip: Matched contacts land in the SWAI contact list you selected — Signal Marketing does not show a separate match inbox or export screen inside the tool. Review deliveries under Contacts (filter by that list).
Tip: Delivery volume per brand may be capped per day (default 20 successful deliveries per UTC day). Excess matches may be held back until the next day. There is no in-app meter for this limit.
Quick start
- Open Contacts.
- Click Add contact → Signal Marketing.
- Click Create New Signal.
- In Describe your signal, enter a prompt and click Generate draft, or click Start from scratch.
- Walk through the wizard: Signal Type → Monitor Options → Contact Enrichment → Desired User Description.
- Review the Summary, then click Verify & Create Signal.
- On Listening Signals, confirm the signal shows as active.
- Back in Contacts, open Filter by list (or search) and check the selected list for matched contacts as they are delivered.
Note: If you used Generate draft, you may see Draft generated from your prompt — review and adjust before creating. Always review AI-filled fields before submitting.
Open Signal Marketing
Path: Sidebar → Contacts → Add contact → Signal Marketing.
Add contact is the same menu used for Quick Add, Import Contacts, Prospecting, and Visitor Intel. Signal Marketing opens in a dialog over Contacts and loads your brand session automatically.
Tip: Stay on Contacts so you can jump straight to the target Contact List after signals start delivering.
Listening Signals list
From Listening Signals you can:
- Search signals (name, list name, type, keywords)
- Pause or Activate a signal
- Edit a signal
- Delete a signal
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Title | Signal display name (same as the selected contact list name) |
| Status | active or paused |
| Type | Keyword mention, new hire, job title change, or topic engagement |
| List | SWAI contact list receiving matches |
| Added | When the signal was created |
| Keywords | How many keywords are configured |
| Actions | Pause/Activate, Edit, Delete |
Empty states:
- No active signals — create your first signal
- No matching signals — try a different search
Warning: Delete Signal cannot be undone.
Tip: Search uses Search your signals... and matches name, list, type, and keywords.
Create a signal
- Click Create New Signal (or + Create your first signal on an empty dashboard).
- In Describe your signal, either:
- Enter a prompt (example: “VP of Sales at mid-market SaaS companies in the US who post about outbound sales challenges…”) and click Generate draft (loading: Generating…), or
- Click Start from scratch
- Complete the wizard steps, then click Verify & Create Signal.
AI turns your prompt into starting fields (type, keywords, filters, scoring text, and more). You can change anything before you create.
Wizard steps
Progress labels: Signal Type → Monitor Options → Contact Enrichment → Desired User Description.
Signal Type
Step 1: Signal Type
Pick one type (selection advances automatically):
| Type | What it does |
|---|---|
| Keyword Mention | Listen to B2B social posts mentioning specific keywords. |
| New Hire | Detect when someone joins a new company. |
| Job Title Change | Detect when someone changes role at the same company. |
| Topic Engagement | Detect who engages with a topic, a specific post, or posts from a LinkedIn profile. |
Click Next Step if you need to move forward manually after changing earlier steps.
Monitor Options
Step 2: Monitor Options
Fields depend on the signal type. Common options include:
- Keywords (max 5) — required for Keyword Mention; optional for Topic Engagement when a post or profile URL is set. Tip:
Use @CompanyName to match brand mentions. - Industry, Company Size, Country, Job Title Keywords (max 10), Seniority Level
- Minimum Relevance Score (slider 0–5) — matches below this score are rejected before AI scoring
- AI Scoring Description (max 500 characters)
For Topic Engagement you may also set:
- LinkedIn Post URL or LinkedIn Profile URL (not both)
- Engagement Types: Likes, Comments
Warning: New Hire and Job Title Change require at least one audience filter (industry, country, company size, job title, or seniority).
Contact Enrichment
Step 3: Contact Enrichment
- Choose enrichment: None, Email only, or Email and Phone
- Select or create a Contact List (Select or create a list… / Create new list)
Note: Matched contacts from this signal will be saved to the selected list.
A contact list is required before you can continue.
Desired User Description
Step 4: Desired User Description
- Describe the ideal prospect profile (max 1000 characters)
- Review the Summary (type, min relevance, contacts, keywords, filters, and more)
- Click Verify & Create Signal (or Verify & Update Signal when editing)
Tip: This description is used by the scoring agent to evaluate and rank profiles matching this signal.
Signal types in detail
| Type | Required setup |
|---|---|
| Keyword Mention | At least one keyword (max 5) |
| New Hire | At least one audience filter |
| Job Title Change | At least one audience filter |
| Topic Engagement | At least one engagement type (Likes / Comments), plus keywords and/or a LinkedIn post URL and/or a LinkedIn profile URL |
Topic Engagement rules:
- Provide either a post URL or a profile URL, not both
- Post URL must be a valid LinkedIn URL
- Profile URL must look like
linkedin.com/in/... - Keywords alone are enough if no URL is set
How matches are evaluated
When a Listening Signal finds a match, Signal Marketing applies gates in order:
- Minimum Relevance Score — low-relevance matches are rejected before AI scoring
- AI scoring — AI evaluates the match against your AI Scoring Description and Desired User Description
- Contact enrichment (if enabled) — looks up email and/or phone when possible
- Delivery — qualifying contacts are saved to your selected SWAI Contact List
Note: Enrichment may be skipped if a LinkedIn profile URL is missing. Enrichment failures can soft-fail so a contact may still be delivered without email or phone.
Note: Signal Marketing does not show per-match history or pipeline status in the UI. Use your SWAI contact list to review delivered contacts.
Managing signals
Edit
- Click Edit Signal on a row.
- Adjust the same wizard steps.
- Click Verify & Update Signal.
Pause or activate
- Pause Signal — status becomes
paused; new matches are not processed - Activate Signal — status becomes
active; monitoring resumes
Delete
- Delete Signal removes the signal immediately with no confirmation
Common warnings and troubleshooting
I can’t open Signal Marketing
Warning: You may see Sign in required, Authentication failed, or Invalid or expired embed token. Close the dialog, stay on Contacts, and open Add contact → Signal Marketing again for the correct brand.
Authentication required for contact lists
If contact lists fail to load with Authentication required, your session may be incomplete. Close Signal Marketing, refresh Contacts, and open Add contact → Signal Marketing again.
I can’t create or update a signal
Check:
- Required fields for your signal type are filled (keywords, ICP filters, engagement targets)
- A Contact List is selected
- Validation messages on the wizard (red banners) — fix those fields and try again
AI draft won’t generate
- Check your connection and try Generate draft again
- If you see Failed to generate draft, try a clearer prompt or use Start from scratch
Contact lists won’t load or create
- Click retry if the picker shows a load error
- Confirm you opened Signal Marketing from Contacts → Add contact (lists need a valid brand session)
- Use Create new list if you do not have a list yet
- You can also create lists from Contacts → Create List before opening Signal Marketing
No contacts appearing in Signal Marketing
Signal Marketing configures and monitors signals. Delivered contacts appear in the SWAI Contact List you selected under Contacts, not as an in-app event feed.
Also check:
- Signal status is active (not paused)
- Filters and relevance threshold are not too strict
- Daily delivery cap may delay additional contacts until the next UTC day
- In Contacts, use Filter by list to open the list tied to the signal
Delete was accidental
Deletion cannot be undone. Recreate the signal with Create New Signal if needed.
